Festive Fun in the Forest
Join us for Christmas 2011 and the festival, which will get you in the festive mood from now until January 15, is open to all day visitors as well as holidaymakers. Highlights include:
Rudolph and Santa’s team of reindeer have just arrived at their stables at five-star Sandy Balls to launch the festival and will stay until their Christmas journey back to Lapland. Children (and adults) are welcome to drop in for a visit at the twinkling light-festooned Piazza.
Santa’s timber grotto
There is no better home for Santa than a pretty timber grotto nestled in the heart of National Park woodland. The idyllic grotto, bedecked with glittering decorations, will become Santa’s ‘home’ for December where he welcomes children to receive an early present with help from his team of toy-making elves.
Snow Queen stilt walker
Look out for the Snow Queen stilt walker who will be meeting and greeting visitors in the Piazza.
Gather around Sandy Balls’ colourful hand-carved totem pole for the best festive storytelling which will capture the imagination of children and adults alike.
Festive horse-drawn wagon
Jump aboard a horse-drawn wagon for a magical 20-minute ride around the beautiful Sandy Balls estate. The private estate offers the chance to get close to nature with picturesque woodland in a 120-acre ‘playground’.
Panto-style performances aren’t quite as they seem with animals, reptiles and creepy crawlies making guest appearances during the shows.
Dusk bike adventures
For off-road adventures, the Cycle Centre is staging a special version of its popular Mud Rats messy forest track experience for children . . . at dusk.
Christmas Farmers’ Market
New forest producers will come to you at Sandy Balls with the best local indulgent goodies to stock your cupboards for the festive season.
Create sparkly gifts
Special workshops will give a taste of how Santa’s elves work by making a range of sparkly gifts and decorations to take home.
No Christmas would be complete without snuggling down to enjoy some true festive movie favourites. Sandy Balls’ cosy Woodside Inn provides the perfect setting to settle in with a hot chocolate – or something stronger – for a movie special.
Carols by candlelight
We can’t forget some good, old-fashioned carols by candlelight . . . and Sandy Balls singers won’t disappoint.
The smell of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine as it’s served outside the Country Store will get you in the festive mood.
Free trips for last-minute shopping
Nothing has been forgotten in making your stay an enjoyable one. For last-minute gift shopping, a free minibus will take guests to Southampton and while mum’s doing the shopping the children can have some fun on the seasonal ice rink.
